Justice John J. Ellington
Supreme Court of Georgia

Justice John J. Ellington was elected to the Supreme Court of Georgia in 2018 and was reelected without opposition in 2024. Prior to this, Justice Ellington served on the Georgia Court of Appeals for nearly 20 years, including serving as Chief Judge from 2012 to 2013.
In 1991, his appointment as the State Court Judge of Treutlen County made him one of the youngest trial court judges in Georgia. In addition to serving as a State Court judge for more than six years, Justice Ellington served as a Superior Court judge by designation in five judicial circuits (29 counties) throughout South Georgia. He also served as Municipal Court Judge in Soperton, Lyons, Reidsville, Glenwood, Mt. Vernon, Ailey, and Uvalda, Georgia.
Justice Ellington has been recognized for his leadership and service, previously being named one of Georgia Trend's "40-Under-40," a 2001 member of the Leadership Georgia class, and has received the Distinguished Judicial Service Award from the State Bar's YLD three times.
In 2016, he was honored with the Robert Benham Award for Community Service, further reflecting his deep commitment to both the legal profession and his community. As an Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Outstanding Young Alumnus, Justice Ellington continues to support his alma mater as a member of their President's Club and serves on the ABAC Foundation.
We are thrilled to welcome Justice Ellington as our distinguished guest at the next GCBA luncheon.
We look forward to seeing you there!
